Off to America!
On April 2nd, me and a team of five other people won the Scottish MATE 2009 ROV Competition. The competition consists of designing and building your own ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) from scratch, and then putting it to the test in a mock submarine inspection/rescue.
The prize was a week long, all expenses paid trip to Massachusetts to represent Scotland in the International finals, where schools from all over the world will come to try and take first place (which they won't
).Now, although we won the SCOTTISH Regional championship, we are, in fact, the only team in Europe who is taking place. So we're representing the whole of Europe come Thursday!
Thankfully, the competition is only 2 days long. So I have 5 days of arsing around in Boston!
We fly out tomorrow, 08:30 and come back 17:30 Sunday, where I look forward to a big plate of British food.
It means sacrificing an extra half and hours sleep. But I'd say that was acceptable if it means I get to go to America for free!
